Growing social volunteering in the municipality (25/05/2012)

Accompany a person in the process of detoxification, the elderly, or sick in a hospital, are some of the activities undertaken in the last 4 months, the 25 volunteers who have joined, actively, the project "Volunteering Municipal Social "launched by the Department of Volunteer of the City of San Javier.

These 25 volunteers joined many others who participate sporadically to specific activities.

Volunteers walked, talked and did errands for the elderly in nursing homes and centers of the municipality, collected recipes and accompanying hospitalized ill persons and their visits.

Also provided educational support three children from a family with limited resources, and collaborated with Caritas socio workshops.

In addition, taught Spanish to foreign mothers, and conducted various workshops for older people, as reflected in the activity report of the first quarter of 2012 the program of Social Participation and Volunteer of the City of San Javier.

The profile of the volunteer who participates in this project is of a middle-aged woman (40-50years) and media studies, although more and more men are volunteers, if over 50 years.

From the program of Social Participation and Volunteering, report also the gradual increase of young people who want to volunteer, probably due to the current crisis environment, and social and educational importance is becoming volunteers.

In this sense, we have held two meetings with the Social Service Outreach and Volunteer of the UMU to establish a joint collaboration with the young students of the Campus of San Javier.

Alongside this project, the Department has developed a Volunteer Social Regulation, pending final approval, which regulates, among other things the rights and duties of volunteers and the City of San Javier, and establishes mechanisms for recognition, appreciation and encouragement, involving the distinction of the altruistic volunteer efforts made by the addition to the satisfaction of contributing to the achievement of a better society.

The Councillor for Education, Citizenship and Volunteering, Kitty Perez praised the progress of the draft voluntary work, and pledged the support of his department for continuity.

The mayor thanked the work of "each and every one of the volunteers whose work serves as helpful to others."

Cati Perez encouraged citizens to join this project "because right now more than ever, volunteering acquires particular value."
