Grandparents learn to enrich time spent with grandchildren (08/10/2012)

The Councillor of Social Services, Francisca Naranjo, accompanied by the director of the Municipal Social Services Centre, Alicia Balsalobre, closed last Friday, October 5, the activities organized to mark the International Day of Older Persons which ended with a day together between grandparents and grandchildren in the Senior Center of Santiago de la Ribera.

Grandparents and grandchildren were mixed in various teams fought out a gymkhana in which they had to go through different seasons themed balloon twisting workshops, jewelery, traditional games, storytelling, and other activities, prepared by the students of municipal employment workshop sociocultural animation .

Francisca Naranjo said the Gymkhana, which ended with a snack together, was to implement the lessons learned by the elderly in a previous workshop, taught by the students of the employment workshop, where they learned how to enrich leisure time spend with their grandchildren.

The program agreed with the International Day of Older Persons, revolved around the figure of grandparents as care by family support and care of their grandchildren.

"A help in times like we are living now is especially important," said the councilor of Social Services.

Along with the workshops, the program included a talk on "The role of older people in these times of crisis," coordinated by psychologist Social Services Centre, José Tortosa, and a poetry contest with the same issue for seniors 60.
