The mayor of San Javier, Juan Martinez defended any activity that contributes to reflect on the need to advance the reduction of the imbalance of opportunities by gender in rural areas, in the Second Day of Rural Women held today in room acts of the City of San Javier organized by the Department of Equality, with the collaboration of the Association of Rural Women "Water and Earth" COAG-IR integrated

The mayor opened the conference attended by about one hundred women with the director general of Irrigation and Rural Development, Julio Bernal and the Councillor for Equality, Celia Martinez.

Bernal found differences between women and men in rural areas but noted that "they begin to appreciate some pointers on more women in requests for advice, support, training or presence in a community entities such as irrigation or agricultural cooperatives ".

The mayor Celia Martinez stressed the importance of analyzing the present rural women "to find solutions to the inequality in rural areas where even the 32 percent of women working in male-owned farms, and 59 percent unlisted Social Security, in addition to a 23 percent less than men. "

Among the imbalances, employment status of women is the most troubling as the professor said UPCT, Innocence Maria Martinez, one of the morning speakers who encouraged the women present to be taking steps to become increasingly independent .

Innocence Maria Martinez co-authored a study on the situation of rural women in the Region of Murcia showed, among other things, that women farm owners run smaller than men, and have greater financial problems, having, even to pay higher interest rates because they are women, so just reducing the profitability of their farms.

The starting workday, or irregular affects 22, 3 percent of rural wage earners, not easy to reconcile with family life which remain principal maintainer.

According to the data obtained in this study, 75 percent of women interviewed wanted to change jobs, to gain recognition for their work, improve their working conditions and opt for greater personal development.

It does not help the very conception of women on their role in the family economy, that estimate by 50 percent, the home and children, which stood at 80 percent.

"We want to get to everything and that's impossible" pointed Professor, Head of Department of Business Economics in UPCT, Innocence Martinez.

"You have to let go of responsibilities in the home and children, husbands sharing responsibilities in the family too."

The day included a photographic presentation on rural women in the municipality of San Javier with twenty images of rural women in the municipality donated by the family themselves or municipal archives, from the 40s to the 70s.

The pictures gave way to the Bureau of Experience which involved several generations of women farmers.

There was also time to address Shared Ownership Act on farms, defined as a major step to overcome the invisibility of women's work on family farms.

After a meal of coexistence in the afternoon visited the SAT The Ritas, a producer of cut flowers in the area before the end of the day in the auditorium of the City of San Javier.
