The mayor of San Javier, Juan Martinez and President of AFEM, Association of families and people with mental illness del Mar Menor, today signed a collaboration agreement between the two institutions through which the City of San Javier contribute a $ 3,000 contribution to the maintenance and development of activities of the association that works the social, family and personal mental illness.
Mayor Juan Martinez said the ongoing work of this association is the only area that is dedicated to mental illness and offering everything from respite care to families to occupational workshops with sick people.
Martinez said it is the first time you sign this agreement "which is a fair recognition of the work carried out, with a sector which requires this support."
The President of AFEM, Juana Romero thanked municipal aid "especially in these difficult times."
Romero stressed the need to continue operating for AFEM, "since it is the only entity that deals with mental illness across the Mar Menor area", since it was founded in 2008.
AFEM, serving members and families of San Javier, San Pedro del Pinatar and Los Alcazares, places special emphasis on social awareness "because it is necessary to break the stigma of mental illness, which should be viewed as a disease rather ".

AFEM has about 50 members, and provides personalized attention to 16 users and their families.
