San Javier Jazz hosts the first and only concert in Spain the legendary Shuggie Otis, and the great lady of soul Bettye Lavette

The Festival de Jazz de San Javier welcomes tomorrow Tuesday 16 July, a historic debut, the first and only concert in Spain of Shuggie Otis, (Los Angeles, 1953) guitarist, singer and songwriter, living legend of rhythm and blues, who returns to the stage after nearly 30 years of voluntary retirement.

Shuggie Otis, touch preceded by the grande dame of American soul, Bettye Lavette, consecrated, after 50-year career as one of the great singers of his country, and The New York Times said: "Bettye Lavette rivals Aretha Frankin now the most vital soul singer of his generation ".

Shuggie Otis began as a precocious musician whose father, the legendary Johnny Otis inoculated with the poison of music.

Before opting for the guitar playing of other instruments, and with only 15 years and recorded with Al Kooper.

His appearance was not lost on anyone.

The great BB King then said it was her favorite of the new generation of guitarists.

It never ceased to amaze, and his creative ability led him to break the mold of musical genres, anticipating great personalities of the music with which it has been linked, as Prince.

Considered the creator of "psychedelic soul", who declined to join the Rolling Stones, admits influences beyond the production of Sly Stone, who, however, did not know not to fall under its influence.

He left his stamp on a short discography that began with 16 years in 1969, with acclaimed albums like "Freedom Flight" which includes the hit "Strawberry Letter 23" and "Inspiration Information", the last album he recorded as a leader, for which he composed all subjects and played every instrument.

Following the withdrawal of the studies, over a long period in which he played with his father, and a band of his own blues circuit in Japan, Shuggie Otis becomes tempted by Legacy Recording, with a repeat of "Inspiration Information" and a new album "Wings of love" with songs he composed in his retirement years, which he describes as "just music from Shuggie Otis".

The band that will perform at Jazz San Javier has two guitars and bass, keyboards, drums and a horn section consisting of two saxophones and a trumpet.

Bettye Lavette, soul singer and songwriter, will visit San Javier Jazz recently celebrated their 50 year career which has established itself as one of the greatest living soul singers.

With only 16 years emerged as a star in the vibrant music scene in Detroit with the theme "My Man, He's a Loving Man," which led her to participate in a tour with musicians such as, by then, also new promise Otis Redding.

Able to modulate his voice and take it to any record not only the soul, but also blues, rock and funk, Bettye Lavette has great strength with which each performance is delivered.
