San Javier is one of two municipalities of the Region of Murcia which is developing a pilot of the program "Active Families" aimed at combating childhood obesity through physical exercise prescipción by pediatricians and family.
The mayor of San Javier, Juan Martinez and Molina de Segura, came this morning to the counseling of Health, in Murcia, where the minister stood by Maria Angeles Palacios this program being held successfully in both municipalities, and is a new version of "Active Program" that works with adults for three years.
Juan Martinez stressed the importance of this type of programs that address from health and sports current issues such as the incidence of unhealthy habits such as sedentary lifestyle, in overweight and related diseases in both adult and infant populations.
Martinez said the initiative and welcomed the cooperation of the ministry of Health to more successfully address a problem that is multidisciplinary and also applauded the Department of Sports, for his decisive role in the development of the program.
Councillor for Sports of San Javier, Carlos Albaladejo said that the Active Families program San Javier, is currently working with 18 children and their families, who come for medical advice.
Once in the program children attend 3 times a week to sports where under supervision and care of specialized sports coaches are introduced to the sport, in a playful way, while reinforcing its social skills in sports.
Families also participate directly in the program with 2 sessions a week.
Active Families program will be extended from next year to 14 municipalities and school hours will pass, after the successful pilot of San Javier and Molina de Segura.
