The Festival de Jazz de San Javier Prize is awarded its sixteenth edition to Pedro Iturralde, living history of jazz in Spain, on a night that will end Celtic fusion sound with violinist Judith Mateo

Saxophonist and composer Pedro Iturralde receives navarro on Saturday July 20th at the Sixteenth Prize Festival International de Jazz de San Javier for his transcendental importance in the history of jazz in Spain and a successful career, who at 84 years, it becomes a living legend in our country genre.

The awaited concert by Pedro Iturralde Quartet in formation, open a night when San Javier Jazz welcomes one of the most outstanding violinists of the Spanish music scene, Judith Mateo, Star Celtic folk rock roots, which will perform accompanied by a distinctly rock band.

Pedro Iturralde, along with Tete Montoliu, is at the origin of jazz history in Spain.

A recording with the German label MPS, in 1967, enshrined in the European scene, where he participated in jazz festivals such as Berlin, next to the groups of Miles Davis, and Thelonious Monk, among others.

Neither goes unnoticed in the United States, where he received praise in magazines such as "Down Beat", and which ended up being honored for his lifetime dedicated to jazz by the "Berklee College of Music" in Boston.

This recognition adds to other submissions received throughout his life, and now has the honor of presenting the Jazz Festival of San Javier.

Pedro Iturralde give way to other Spanish music, Judith Mateo, the Spanish violinist restless foremost among Celtic figures panorama.
