The Civil Guard detained a pastor as allegedly responsible for the death of a dog and malnutrition from another (08/10/2014)

The action has been initiated following a complaint lodged by an association defending the animals

The detainee is attributed authorship of the alleged crime of animal abuse

The Civil Guard in the region of Murcia has developed the Operation canid 'to determine the circumstances of the death by hanging of a dog and abandoned without food or water, the other, which has led to the arrest of a person suspicion of an offense relating to the protection of domestic animals (animal abuse).

Last September, Civil Guards Service Nature Protection (SEPRONA) became aware of the discovery of a dead dog and another in poor health conditions in the vicinity of a farm in the municipality of San Javier.

These facts were reported by a defender association of animal rights, who reported that the perimeter fence of a farm had seen the body of a dog with signs hanging, and another dog, tied up without food or water and in a state of cachexia (extreme malnutrition and weakness).

The finding was confirmed by SEPRONA Civil Guard, which began research aimed at locating and, if necessary, arrest the person responsible for this abuse.

The inspection found that the canines on animals not carrying identification microchips, making police work focused on locating the owner or persons responsible for their care.

These investigations were positive with the identification of a person supposedly used to work the dogs on sheep grazing in the area.

The Civil Guard has completed the operation with the arrest of a 43 year old male resident of San Javier suspicion of crime on the protection of domestic animals (animal abuse).

In addition to judicial proceedings, there have been several complaints of administrative violation of Law 10/1990 on the protection and defense of the pets.

The detainee and the proceedings have been delivered to the Magistrate's Court No. 1 of San Javier (Murcia), while the animal rescued alive has been treated and recovered in a veterinary center and made available to the judicial authority, remaining in units of a protective association of animals.

The offense on the protection of domestic animals

Animal abuse is enshrined in the Criminal Code, which defines it as the fact unjustifiably mistreating pets or tamed by any means or process, causing death or causing them injury which severely damage your health, and is punishable three months to one year imprisonment and disqualification of one to three years for the exercise of a profession, trade or business that has a connection with animals.
