San Javier audits municipal buildings to improve energy efficiency (11/02/2015)

The City of San Javier is determined to continue reducing energy bills after getting a saving of 500,000 euros in the first half of the current legislature as expressed today the Town Planning and Environment, Antonio Luengo, during the presentation of audits energy have been made in municipal buildings and schools in the municipality.

CETENMA technicians explained the methodology followed and savings proposals that are aimed at the replacement of LED technology in indoor and outdoor lighting, or more efficient than T8 fluorescent tubes T5, which predominate in schools.

It is also proposed to replace diesel as fuel by other lower cost as substituting natural gas burner or boiler replacements, such as biomass, of which there is only one, located in the School "Fulgencio Ruiz".

Among the most affordable proposals modifying the electrical contracting, which is not always appropriate to the needs of each building studied, and the addition of a capacitor bank is to avoid the surcharge on the bill for reactive energy.

Besides other proposals such as a thermal blanket in the heated pool, which maintains temperature and a photovoltaic system on the roof of City Hall are made.

Estimates from studies estimate that take place all measures of energy saving proposals in 7 buildings, annual energy costs amount to € 322,000 with a cost savings of € 106,264 (32.93%), and a necessary investment of € 573,881.

This would avoid the emission of 231.98 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

Councilman Antonio Luengo emphasized the value of the studies conducted, to be followed by others with the rest of municipal, "because they help us to improve energy efficiency" buildings.

Luengo explained that from now on the municipal officers consider the audits with the proposals and taking into account the investments and results of each, an action plan will be developed.

The mayor encouraged companies and individuals to perform such audits that allow you to save energy in the most effective manner.

Luengo explained that audits were performed through the agreement that hold council with the Institute of Development, and is a step in the municipal commitment to the Covenant of Mayors, which aims to reduce by 20 percent the energy consumption in 2020 and increase by the same amount the use of renewable energies.

The director of CETENMA, Gema San Javier Castejón noted that "one of the first municipalities in Region of Murcia in performing these audits," and placed them in the brand-Fuensanta Elena Energy Efficiency Project, developed with European funds and managed by the Instituto de Fomento whose purpose is to provide, in this case through the CETENMA, technical consultancy in the field to local governments.
