The Governing Council has approved the demarcation of the protective environment of the Tower of El Estacio de San Javier, declared Cultural Interest (BIC), with the category of Monument, for Transitional Provision of Law of Cultural Heritage Region Murcia 2007.

The Tower of El Estacio, also called San Miguel, is one of the built for coastal defense against raids by corsairs and Barbary pirates, and part of the proposed by Juan Bautista Antonelli in 1570. surveillance and defense Its location It was considered a priority because of its central location in the Mar Menor and the proximity of Isla Grossa, used by pirate ships as anchorage and shelter from storms.

Lost its defensive function, was dismantled and construction materials reused in other works in its vicinity, so their current conservation status is limited to its base, about 12 meters in diameter, and a small part of its elevation.

The tower is located in a central area of ​​La Manga, in the area known as El Estacio (La Manga, San Javier), about eight miles from San Javier and fourteen of Cabo de Palos.

It is located on a slightly elevated rocky point above the sea next to the entrance of the Mayor or Gola Gola Vieja.

BIC limits are defined by a polygonal line which includes the small hill where the tower is located, also collecting the remains of the quarry used in its construction.
