Herbie Hancock will receive, after the show, the prize of the Festival de Jazz de San Javier 2008, in honor of his career.

With an extraordinary band which contains several jazz stars in their own right, as the bassist Dave Holland, drummer Vinnie Colaiuta, saxophonist Chris Potter, or the new revelation of the jazz guitar Lionel Loueke, plus singers Sonya Kitchell and Amy Keys, Herbie Hancock Jazz returns to San Javier where already triumphed in the third festival in 2000.

43 years ago that not a jazz album won the Grammy for Best Album of the year since I got it in 1965 "Getz-Gilberto, Stan Getz and Joao Gilberto.

Herbie Hancock has done it in 2008 with a tribute album to his friend, the Canadian Joni Mitchell, author of all tracks on the album, but two of them, one of Wayne Shorter's "Nefertiti" and "Solitude" by Duke Ellington, also contained in this work, for which featured special guests such as Norah Jones, Tina Turner, Luciana Souza, Leonard Cohen or the individual.

"River: The Joni Letters" is a step in the career of Herbie Hancock, one of the most respected and influential musicians of the United States whose exceptional talent was spotted from the start when his first work for Blue Note in the 60 recorded "Takin 'off', which included his first great composition and one of his greatest hits, the song" Watermelon Man. "

The young pianist and composer from Chicago joined the Miles Davis quintet, with whom he spent five years until 1968.

At that time he recorded "Maiden Voyage", described as a masterpiece of jazz piano, and begins to experiment with their sound, incorporating various techniques acoustic piano that arises electronic jazz fusion, made popular with enormous sales success with his album "Headhunters."

Rate has been virtually no stranger to the musician in constant evolution, which was set in the pop, hard-rock, synthesized dance music, scratch, based on an original rhythmic effect of rap, and explored the rhythms of urban music contemporary, incorporating some of its resources to work.

Herbie Hancock, 68, with a long and distinguished career behind him, started piano at age 7, and 11 and gave a concert of Mozart.

Listening to Oscar Peterson and George Shearing I generated an interest in jazz who has not left since then, although their extensive discography of nearly 40 albums includes both classic modern jazz compositions and the various styles, which has the Hancock chameleon approached without prejudice, and under what it describes as the basic principle of jazz, which he shared with his admired Miles Davis, and that is "in play the moment not the past."

Herbie Hancock joins the dozens of awards an Oscar from the Academy of Hollywood who won in 1987 by the original soundtrack of the movie "Round Midnight" by Bertrand Tavernier.
