The Council of Ministers approved today a royal decree regulating the general system of universities of Defense to be established to train officers of the General Corps and Marine Corps, according to Law Military Career that designing a new educational model.
This model includes the one hand, the specific and general military training, taught in military academies and, secondly, the granting of a degree of general education system, according to the Bologna model, which will in college of Defense.
The universities of Defense shall be established and governed by separate agreements between the Ministry of Defence and the Universities of Zaragoza, Vigo and the Polytechnic of Cartagena, which are those that may be related to the Academy of General Zaragoza and San Javier and the School Naval de Marín.
Dependents will be centers of each college, but will be located in the aforementioned military schools.
The management of them will be headed by a Joint Board (Ministry of Defense-University), chaired by a representative of the Secretary of Defense.
Once signed the agreements, the respective Boards of Trustees may appoint directors of universities, which may be carried out during 2009.
In addition, the Directorate General for Infrastructure, Ministry of Defense will initiate works to build or, where appropriate, put the buildings that house the schools within each academy.
APPROVAL OF PLANS OF STUDY
For his part, after the signing of such agreements, the universities will begin the procedure for approving the curriculum, which corresponds to the Ministries of Education in each region.
The new curriculum will take effect in September 2010, date that will be launched in Spain the European area of education.
In defense colleges also may be taught to the award of postgraduate degrees in the ways of master and doctor.
Also define and develop lines of research that are considered of interest to the military and for peace, security and defense work, where appropriate, with other entities and public education and research.
The new centers, as well as provide professional training for officers, constitute a link between the university community and the military.
This is an innovation because, for the first time in the history of military education, provides an educational model built on two pillars, the military and the university.
