The Department of Tourism is launching an automated service bicycle rental with 5 bases scattered throughout the city and 50 bicycles available to users (22/01/2009)

The mayor of San Javier Pepa García and Jesús Montesinos Councillor for Tourism, accompanied by the director of the Regional Agency for Energy Management, Paul Miranda, presented this morning the automatic municipal bicycle rental that will allow users to take or let one of the 50 units available in any of the 5 bases of bicycles that have been located in San Javier, near the Conservatory of Music in Santiago de la Ribera, near the esplanade Barnuevo, and Faculty of Sport Sciences, in Roda, near the civic center, and La Manga in the Mistral beach next to the tourist information point.

The system used to access the bike will be via SMS through mobile phone, in which the user must send a message with the word fuck or leave, according to intended use, the number of cycling, the number of padlock and user number.

After sending the message the bicycle lock release that are anchored.

When leaving the bike you can park in any of the existing bases, repeat the same operation.

The time to enjoy cycling in each operation will be 3 hours.

The bikes will be available for use within 3 weeks.

At that time there will be an information campaign of the service that morning from users may wish to register in order to obtain your user name in the tourist office of Santiago de la Ribera, or office Festival in San Javier.

The only requirement for the number of user is to have more than 18 years or over 14 with parental consent.

Those interested should bring their personal data and mobile phone number through which accede to the loan.

The mayor of San Javier, Pepa García stressed the promotion of sustainable mobility in the municipality, the main objective of this initiative that requires public awareness.

Pepa García recalled that soon will adopt an ordinance to regulate this new service, and stressed the public good bicycle for what has been a general call to respect and proper use of them, as well as citizen complaints against inappropriate acts that may occur and will be punished under the applicable rules.

The Councillor for Tourism, Jesus Montesinos has announced it is planning to increase the service with 5 new bases that will add another 50 bikes to this initiative, which corresponds to the City's efforts to further expand the 6 miles of bike lanes already operating.

As announced by the council before the summer will be completed the 2.6 miles that are built on the airport road from Santiago de la Ribera to Los Narejos and the 1.2 kilometers to be built in Cape Huertas Street and 2 kilometers of bicycle paths that join Roda Los Narejos.

The ultimate goal is to unite all the municipality for a bike lane which will involve a total of 70 kilometers of exclusive use of bicycles.

The allocation of the first 50 bicycles for loan and accceso service to them has been done through a plan sponsored by the Agency for Energy Management in the Region of Murcia, through an agreement with the Institute for Energy Diversification and Energy savings under the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce, to implement energy saving measures.

Pablo Miranda, director of the Regional Agency for Energy Management, has announced that this type of initiative will be further implemented in other municipalities in the region, where it already operates in Cartagena, Alhama, Totana, Puerto Lumbreras, Murcia University, and Now San Javier.
