Environment Councilman José Luis Espinosa and President of ANSE in Cartagena, Pedro García inaugurated this morning at the Civic Center of San Javier exposure "Dunes, a sea of sand", dedicated to "rescue and publicize these ecosystems del Mar Menor, and particularly of La Manga, where you can still see well-preserved dunes and very representative ", as stated by the mayor of the Environment, José Luis Espinosa.
The sample of didactic and dynamic and entertaining style, offering an overview from the formation of La Manga, including historical references, as that is related through a book of Hunting by Alfonso XI, as the La Manga was a forest suitable for hunting deer.
Later, when serving forest lair to the Barbary pirates, the city of Cartagena encourage people to use firewood in the area where the trees eventually disappeared.
The exhibition, held jointly by ASEAN and the Department of Environment, focuses on the evolution of the fauna and flora of the area, especially in the dunes, and the threats that has taken over time and found in the rapid urban development in the area suffered.
The exhibition offers, however, a positive message, the presence of dunes of great beauty and environmental value can still be seen in La Manga and constituting one of its major environmental and landscape values, which may be preserved and safeguarded.
The exhibition will be visited by the secondary schools of the municipality and is also the interested public until June 12 in morning and afternoon.
The show is part of the program of activities that the council has organized throughout the week on the occasion of World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5th.
