The Abbey Theatre Company will close the 40 Festival of Theatre and Dance in San Javier with the play "Better Days" by American playwright Richard Dresser under the direction of Alex Rigola, director of the Teatre Lliure in Barcelona, returns to work with Madrid residents of The Abbey with whom they worked on "King Ubu" and "Long Day's Journey Into Night."
The work deals with survival, with the U.S. economic crisis of the 80 background through six characters in unemployment and no apparent future.
At present, the text of Dresser acquires special significance because beyond its term, nearly 20 years later, highlights the social learning no similar experiences.
The author himself has acknowledged that "unfortunately, Better Days is more relevant than when I wrote it."
The protagonists of the show are a group of unemployed youths living in dilapidated apartment to look for life for what they decide to burn cars to collect insurance, and even unpaid bills, so at least they will combat the cold.
The hopeless situation of these people will walk to raise other issues arising from a state of general economic crisis, always addressed through humor despite the tragedy they are living the characters.
Alex has spoken Rigola Better Days "a comedy with some very tough characters who are in a wait not real, floating in a reality not yet allowed to continue living day to day."
Hope is the only thing not be denied to the characters of Better Days, I remember the author, Richard Dresser, "decent people pushed to the stream by an economy overwhelmingly unfair."
The play, whose text has covered Ignacio García May, with a higher dose of surrealism and the result pleased the author who attended its premiere in Madrid, is played by Ernesto Arias, Irene Escolar, Lino Ferreira, Ana Otero, Tomas Pozzi, and Marc Rodríguez.
