12 immigrants intercepted two boats in La Manga del Mar Menor (04/09/2009)

Civil Guard officers of the Post of Cabo de Palos have been intercepted in the morning to twelve immigrants who had arrived to the region of Murcia on board two boats that reached the regional coastal zone Veneziola in La Manga del Mar Minor, municipality of San Javier.

The aforementioned immigrants, men, eleven suspected of Algerian nationality and one Palestinian, all in good health, and the two boats, an inflatable and a hard, equipped with outboard motor, were intercepted at that beach by the agents of the Guardia Civil after launching a search engine with the intervention of a patrol of the Maritime Service of the Guardia Civil and a helicopter.

Food has been provided by members of the Red Cross has not yet been determined whether any of them could be a minor, pending necessary checks.

Civil Guard will proceed to transfer the immigrants to make them available to the National Police for the timely processing of records returned to their country by illegal entry into Spanish territory.

Throughout this year have reached the regional coast a total of 347 illegal immigrants representing a decrease of 36.45% over the same period in 2008.

Almost all illegal immigrants was intercepted and returned to their country of origin, thanks to partnerships between the Ministry of Interior and the Government of Algeria.
