Caritas Hall and sign an agreement to improve welfare in the municipality (20/04/2010)

The municipality of San Javier, through the Department of Social Services has signed a collaboration agreement with Caritas San Javier and Santiago de la Ribera Caritas for the basic needs of individuals or families in emergency situations.

The agreement we have signed the Mayor, Pepa Garcia and the pastors of San Javier, José León, and Santiago de la Ribera Juan Pedro Fernandez, is the delivery by the Department of Social Services to 70,000 per year that Caritas used to optimize and expand its aid effort in food, clothing, electricity charges, water, or shelter, among other services to the needy.

The mayor of San Javier, Pepa Garcia, accompanied by the councilman of Social Services, Maria Angeles Chum, recalled that while the City has been working with Caritas for years, this agreement formalizes a working line "which we hope to maintain ".

Pepa Garcia highlighted the work of Caritas "to help first and ask questions later, compared to the rigidity of the administration which sometimes hinders immediate and direct assistance offered by Caritas."

Along with the directors of Caritas San Javier, Francisco Griñón and Santiago de la Ribera, José María Cervantes and a dozen volunteers, Pepa García thanked "the selfless work, continuous and consistent with that every day they get the solving many problems. "

The heads of two delegations of Caritas in the town agreed at the time of the signing of this agreement before the increase in requests for assistance motivated by the current crisis.

José María Cervantes said that in Santiago de la Ribera in 2009 there was an increase of 100 percent of families served over 2008, going from 123 to 240 families served.

Also increased the number of Spanish people who requested help from Caritas, from 10 percent of the total in 2008 to 28 percent in 2009.

In San Javier, explained Griñón, in 2009 served a total of 2,163 persons of which 11 percent was Spanish.

In both cases, among the predominant nationalities attended Moroccan, followed distantly by the Bolivian and Ecuadorian.
